Remote Commissioning allows you to complete legal declarations and affidavits through a live video call instead of meeting in person.
Ontario’s legislation permits certain documents to be commissioned remotely, with the same legal validity as in-person commissioning.
How It Works:
1. Online Booking
Select a date and time and upload your documents.
2. ID Verification
You will be asked to provide a valid government-issued photo ID.
3. Video Call (Zoom)
The Commissioner will
-
verify your identity. Please have the same ID you uploaded in advance, as the Commissioner must verify it during the video call. Do not forget to prepare it before the session starts.
-
review your documents
-
administer the oath/affirmation
4. You sign the document while on camera
The Commissioner must witness you signing the document in real time. Please adjust your camera angle so that your signature can be clearly seen. After signing, you will be asked to show the signed document to the camera so the Notary can visually confirm the details.
5. Upload your signed PDF
Simply take a photo or scan and upload as PDF.
6. The commissioner applies a digital signature and seal
A legally valid electronically commissioned PDF will be prepared.
7. Download the completed document from the Client Portal
You can securely download your completed document through the Client Portal.

Important Notes / Legal Considerations
- Do not sign the document in advance. You must sign in front of the Commissioner via a real-time video call.
- It is the client’s responsibility to confirm acceptance. Please ensure the receiving organization accepts remote commissioning before booking.
- It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that the commissioning documents are accurate and complete. The Commissioner / Notary does not provide legal advice and is not responsible for the content or correctness of the documents.
- Payment is required in advance. The Commissioner’s signature is added after payment is confirmed. The fee starts at $40 + HST per signature/seal. A discount applies from the second signature onward. For full details, please refer to the Fees page.
- Documents are delivered through the secure Client Portal. Email attachments are not used for privacy and security reasons.
